Sustainable Building and Technologies

The lecture series provides insights into fundamental issues of sustainable construction and shows the importance of the construction industry in terms of a resource-conserving approach to the Earth's ecosystem. Selected examples are used to show how design, functional, constructional, and ecological requirements can be harmonized with regards to the planning and implementation of sustainable buildings. This includes both the preservation of the existing building fabric and the construction of new buildings.

After the course, students will be able to recognize and assess the connection between ecological, socio-cultural, and economic factors with regard to sustainable action in the construction industry. Based on the presentation of examples, students will be able to describe the basic objectives and procedures regarding the planning of sustainable buildings. After attending the course, students will also be familiar with the necessary approaches to planning sustainable buildings in order to ensure the environmentally friendly, resource-conserving use of materials, water, and energy.
