Due to the incredibly rapid pace of developments in computer science, the goal of our research is not to find solutions for today's practice but rather to investigate near future developments and work methods in the field of Computer-Aided Architectural Design (CAAD).
CAAD has much to offer in regards to digital tools that can aid in the analysis of complex architectural requirements. These tools, combined with knowledge of emerging technologies, allow us to consider new conceptual methods in order to more effectively evaluate and develop prototypes and proposed solutions.To do so, it is essential to face the challenge of new technologies and practices openly and critically- to make them functionally and profitably available to professionals in the field. The intention is to open up new fields, changing and extending the role of the architect.
The computer as a comprehensive design and planning medium is treated as the central object of research. Research is divided into three complementary research fields: Theory, Experimentation and Application. Investigations in these three research areas is conducted interdisciplinaraly.
The focus "Theory" addresses the historical view of the digital design in a cultural context, addressing criticism and reflection on how we design on and with the computer. The focus "Applications" investigates long-term and medium term practical problems in the context of computer supported work and analysis processes. The focus "Experimentation" studies the appropriation of new media and technologies in the context of architecture.
