This focus point looks at the external framework conditions to which architecture and urban planning are exposed. These range from climate, politics and economics to official and social processes and attitudes as well as media representations. This "power of conditions" thus sets the framework within which architecture and urban design act, because the analysis of the framework is fundamentally important for understanding the built environment, but also for the transformation paths to be taken in the climate catastrophe. 

The focus here is, among other things, on how these conditions are reflected in so-called everyday architecture. Here, individual buildings, building types, but also streetscapes are examined, which are part of everyday architecture, but in their emergence and expression reveal the depth of the city. In addition, we are concerned with the question of how everyday architecture can and must look in the future in order to meet the greatly changed conditions of the 21st century.  

The close links between the professorship and the authorities of the State of Bavaria in education and research also make it possible to link topics of urban design with questions of governance as an often decisive condition for the (non-)implementation of measures. In this context, we focus on the city of Munich as a city under pressure, where conditions of growth, but also of the land market and international financial flows are particularly strongly reflected.
