Research on the Preservation of Selected Monuments in China

The research project for the preservation of cultural heritage in China is based on an agreement signed in 1988 between the German Federal Ministry for Research and Technology (nowadays: Federal Ministry for Education and Research) and the Chinese Committee for Science and Technology. Between 1990-2006 the munich part of the China Project was located at the Bayerisches Landesamt für Denkmalpflege, between 2007-2014 at the TU München. Several Chinese and German institutions were involved in the co-operation.
Aims of the co-operation were the scientific exchange, the development and testing of conservation methods for cultural heritage of Shaanxi Province. Since 2006 the project also included sites in Sichuan Province.
