Forschung, PAGE:TUMvCard |

Topic: The aim of the project is to investigate the impact of the economic crisis on the cities of Milan, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Lyon, Manchester and Munich. The effects are described in main topics such as urban development policy, housing policy, employment policy and social policy.

Brief description: The research project was preceded by a study and publication of the Politecnico Milano on "Social cohesion and competitiveness in six European cities" (Ranci, Città nella rete globale. Competitività e disuguaglianze in sei città europee, Bruno Mondadori, Milano 2010). This study explored and compared different patterns of urban development in Milan, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Lyon, Manchester and Munich. The research focused on positive linkages, tensions and trade-offs in the economic and social dimensions of growth in pre-crisis times (2000-2008). Both common "trends" in urban development and significant differences in the overall urban context were highlighted by the study. The Chair of Urban Development, taking into account the above-mentioned topics, has been commissioned to prepare a case study of recent urban developments in Munich.
