During 10 days in July, at the Architecture and Champagne summer schools, students from all over the world will come together to imagine, exchange, design and build scale one huts of vines in a territory marked by the wine heritage. Supervised by architects and under the aegis of Pierre Louis Faloci (National Architectural Grand Prix in 2018) who is supporting the workshop this year.
They will realize these micro-architectures, functional places, but also meeting points, from panorama towards the landscape and the surrounding vines.
The vineyard houses, or huts, are modest constructions composed of one room only and are mostly used by winemakers to shelter, eat and rest. Appearing for the first time in the 16th century, they were developed at the end of the 19th century, only to be later abandoned in the early 20th century. Today they punctuate the Champagne vineyards and serve as landmarks. The vineyard houses are now scarcely used, although to some Champagne Houses they serve as a medium of communication. They can also be exploited during the harvest period. Even though the vineyard lodge is generally built with brick, chalk or stone, with a tiled or corrugated iron roof, it is sometimes reduced to its simplest expression; its primary role being to protect the winemakers from the weather.
During this summer school you'll experience to work in a team, to share meetings with the vine growers, to visit the UNESCO World Heritage sites, to participate in tastings ... and to contribute to the construction of an architectural course in the vineyards to propose to the public.
The Summer School is organized by the Agglomeration of  Châlons-en-Champagne, in partnership with the National School of Architecture of Nancy and the House of Architecture of Champagne-Ardenne. It will take place from July 12th to 24th 2019 in Châlon-en-Champagne and the registration deadline is June 30th 2019. 3 ECTS are awarded on request.
