Chair of Energy Efficient and Sustainable Design and Building
The building sector is the largest consumer of primary energy in Germany and therefore has the largest theoretical potential to save energy. With this background, the Association for Construction Research and Professional Education of the Bavarian Construction Industry Association, together with the Technische Universität München (TUM), has founded the endowed Chair of Energy Efficient and Sustainable Design and Building, reinforcing the TUM’s profile in this domain.
The Chair is a joint appointment between the Department of Architecture and the Faculty of Civil, Geo and Environmental Engineering. Its aim is the promotion of interdisciplinary research at both departments and other engineering faculties, as well as the integration of energy efficient design and building as mandatory and elementary module of studies.
In addition to already existing degree courses in architecture, a fundamental lecture on sustainable design and building will be offered to civil engineering students of Bachelor courses starting in the summer semester 2011.
From the winter semester 2011/2012, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Surveying in cooperation with the Department of Architecture under the lead of the Chair offers interdisciplinary inter-faculty Masters Programme in Energy Efficient and Sustainable Building.
Furthermore, the Institute coordinates the Centre for Sustainable Building. The Centre strives at interdisciplinary research with all relevant faculties of TUM which becomes distinct in the Chair's teaching concept.
