The systematic internationalization is one of the strategic development objectives of the Munich School of Architecture. The curricular integration of a one-year study abroad period should significantly boost students’ opportunities to acquire international experience. A study abroad year supports students in the development of their personalities. In addition, intercultural competence is gained as well as a professional network established.

The TUM’s Bachelor degree course in Architecture, in line with this trend, is in this respect unique among European schools of architecture. Since 2008, the Department of Architecture at TUM has expanded its contacts with universities around the world considerably. It currently has 86 partnerships in 36 countries. Within the framework of a selection procedure according to academic performance, personal suitability and motivation, each student is placed at an international partner university.

In this year 2016/17 201 bachelor and master students are studying at partner universities abroad. 146 went to Universities in Europe, 55 to Universities outside of Europe. 205 international exchange students studied at the TU. 135 of our international guests were from Europe, 70 come from outer European countries.
