Munich as a place to study

Technology, talent and tolerance determine a city's appeal. But its productivity and prosperity matter, too. The city of Munich, with its 1.3 million inhabitants, is way out in front – not only from the point of view of its technology-intensive new ventures or patent intensity, but also in terms of the proportion of the population in creative milieus or university talent forges. Moreover, Munich is the home of countless architectural and design enterprises. According to the International Herald Tribune, Munich is the “most liveable city in the world: a winning combination of investment in infrastructure, high-quality housing, low crime, liberal politics, strong media and general feeling of Gemütlichkeit (congeniality) make it a city that should inspire others.”

Work environment of TUM
Students benefit from a professional working environment at the heart of the city of Munich. A friendly Student Service pool and intensive architectural design support are important fundamentals. The academic and research units with adjoining studios cover an area of more than 13,000 m2. The Faculty has plenty of workstations at its disposal.

The Technology Center provides direct access to metalwork, woodwork and plastics workshops for the construction of models and prototypes with 3D printers or laser cutters. A CAAD laboratory, solar station, fire protection laboratory, climate laboratory, lighting lab, façade test stand, flow simulators, tele-construction site and construction robotics hall are additional, important facilities for work and research.
